As I grabbed my nephew's notebook (Curious George letterhead) to jot down information on the day's planting activities, I decided that a blog would be a much more effective place to keep everything I need to remember about my brand-new gardening experiment. So here we are! Since I did not have a new year's resolution before, I'll begin one now. I'll update this journal for the following reasons:
1. Record the progress of my garden
2. Post links to people who know what they're doing so I can glean from their wisdom
3. Post recipes I tried that were successes-and failures
4. Anything else I come across that seems homemaker-ish!
Today, I started:
1. True lavender
2. Sweet Italian basil
3. Moss rose (double-mixed)
4. Hollyhock (double-mixed)
I used potting soil (not the compost, because I wanted to avoid weeds and the big mess that comes from sterilizing soil in the oven.) I used biodegradable starting boxes from Fred Meyer; 50 for $2.50! Thanks, Mom!
I also started soaking some asparagus seeds (note: these take 3 years to mature! This experiment is doomed from the start.)
Here you can see my lovely new miniature greenhouse. It zips closed; like a tent! I feel like my plants are camping!

I also made some shortcake to bring over to my friends' house for dessert. Yumm!
